Crossroads in the Desert

The crossroads program is almost absurdly funny. It reminds me of year 10. The easy days when school was simple. Small amount of content with wide discussions and a lot of wasted time.

In contrast, we are in the middle of our journey through this desert we call the HSC. They give us textbooks to memorize and they hammer it into our sculls.

I’m not doubting the efficiency of this learning technique. We cover the content we need to know...but it restricts the mind. How can you think, how can you ponder on questions and ideas, morals and ideals, when you are desperately trying to cling to as much information as you can? Desperately trying to hold on to it and never let go...until the exam of coarse. The day after an exam I seem to forget all the formulas and all the facts that I that I spent the previous weeks trying to memorize.

So we wait for the holidays, so desperately we wait, ticking off our calendar and counting down the days (although I must say, I just zone out and wait for people to tell me it’s time off), for a chance to use and question the knowledge we have learned in the previous term.

...well we could do that, but I just got a phone call and surfs up.

adieu
